The Way of the Cross
How to become a Christian
Admit that you are a sinner
“For All have sinned and come short of the glory of God”
Romans 3:23
Believe that Jesus died for your sins
“For if you confess with your mouth jesus is lord and believe
in your heart that god raised him from the dead you shall be saved”
Romans 10:9
Commit your life to him
“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put
aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross and follow me.”
Matthew 16:24
Invite Christ into your life and heart today
“For the wages of sin is death but the gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ”

Small Group / Bible Study Update - New |
|
Hello there:
It is time actually to begin thinking about our winter literature. Some of you have expressed interest in doing a book-by-book study, such as a study on the Book of Ruth or Judges or Joshua. I do support that but I want to make sure we get the right literature and that we have something to give each person in the class and guest. While in one aspect we are teaching people we already know in another aspect we need to also think: "OK, what if I have someone in my class today that knows nothing about who Jesus Christ is." We have to remember we are shepherds, sharing the revelation of God and Christ and I know that we do that.
The good news is that there is not one book in the Bible where you cannot layer in Christ. Genesis, Creation and Creator (See John 1:1-5). Judges, He is the Judge. Joshua, He is the Lord's Commander. Ruth, important genealogy link to Christ. Daniel, Ezekiel, Jeremiah prophetic books speaking to Christ, His first and second coming and the end days plus the dispersion of the Israelites. Anyway, there is absolutely nothing in the Bible that we can't draw some correlation to Jesus Christ. I want to make sure we do that if we use something outside of the theme oriented Lifeway literature. Again, I am not opposed to it, in fact we are already, this first quarter, doing some of this. Kevin is teaching from a Max Lucado study and Michelle and Robert are teaching from two incredible Andy Stanley series. I just want to ensure that we teach to salvation and the source of it, Jesus Christ. That is accomplishable no matter what we want to teach. Christ exists throughout Scripture.
Tid bit of Bible info:
Did you know that if you divide the Bible into thirds, the 22, 44, and 66 book you discover something pretty interesting. They are books with some correlation to a marriage.
22 Book - Song of Solomon - Marriage one man to one woman (The relationship of one man and one woman)
44 Book - Acts - Marriage of the Church
66 Book - Revelation - Marriage of the Bride and the Bridegroom. The saved and Jesus.
Anyway, be praying about it. God will lead you. There is a ton of very good literature out there from a number of sources. I am sure we can find something. I do need to go ahead and start to compile the order for this winter. I know that I will need your orders within the next couple of weeks to get the discount. So please let me know your orders for the upcoming quarter.
Michelle:
I was wondering if you would like to right a paragraph or two on the Andy Stanley series for me.
Kevin:
I was hoping to get you to do the same thing for your study. I want to 1) advertise this and 2) get this into our news letter.
Other Thoughts
For our children's and young adult classes, many of you have had meet and greets plus cook outs and other extracurricular activities. Let me know when you want to have these types of events. This is something that we need to share with the church body plus I want to attend as well. Awesome opportunities to plug in the church body. Anyway, let me know your thoughts on that. Not to mention, comment of happenings and planning related to ETC as well as VBS.
Sunday School Planning Meeting
Round Up Sunday is coming and it is time to begin planning for that. There will be a meeting, Tuesday, September 15, 2009. I want to use this as a general planning meeting plus to begin coordinating the who's and what's and when's for Round UP Sunday.
Thank you all so much for being willing to serve.
In His Service, Mark

Hostess Committee
February 2010
January has been a quiet month for the Hostess Committee. Our Church had a wonderful December, filled with celebrations observing the birth of Jesus. We now turn our attention to the upcoming year. It is time to turn our efforts and resolve to reach out to our community witnessing to those who do not know Christ and are not enjoying love and Christian fellowship. We are so fortunate in that Brian Norris is our Fifth Sunday Sing guest, bringing the word to us through his music in our morning service. Following the service, we will be enjoying a pot-luck luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. In Matthew, Jesus promises us: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”. This will be a great time to enjoy wonderful food, Christian love and conversation with family, friends and neighbors in the presence of Christ. Many of us share fond memories of Fifth Sunday sings over the years. One of my fondest memories, is waking up at my Grandmother’s house on a Sunday morning, the house filled with the wonderful smell of her cooking, the sounds of good old gospel music playing on the radio brought by the local station in Cordele, Georgia, with great anticipation of seeing aunts, uncles and cousins at Pleasant View Baptist Church’s Sunday Gospel Sing after the “Dinner on the Ground”, prepared with love and good Christian hands. Remember when the old churches had no air-conditioning, the windows were open and you could hear “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” floating across the churchyard and road, never mind the fact that a big old wasp had flown in an open window and was “dive bombing” little Billy McGlamery, who was wedged (for control) between Ms. McGlamery and Beulah Jones.
When we have our church gatherings and events in our Homecomings, Fifth Sunday Sings, Vacation Bible Schools and others, we are making memories for ourselves, our friends, children and grandchildren that will live on in our hearts for years to come. We are setting examples for them and letting them see what a fulfilled and wonderful a Christian life can be. Kristin is making memories and setting a wonderful example when she lifts Kyla up on a chair, hands her a microphone so that she can join her in singing God’s praises. We should all make it our resolution this year to seize every opportunity to participate in all of our church’s social functions this upcoming year and invite a friend, relative or neighbor. We should resolve to be known as a friendly church, spreading the story of redemption.

New Small Groups
/ Bible Study
Sunday School
Time 9:15 to 10:15am
January 2010
We have an exciting study going on right now for our high schoolers. An incredible journey through God's truths presented in a series of video presentations and discussions. Come and enjoy.
The High School class has been going through a couple of Bible studies by Andy Stanley. We have completed the first series, Pause, which took a close look at the temptations Jesus faced in the desert so that we could identify the driving forces behind the temptations that we face every day. Once we realize what is behind temptation, and what is at stake every time we are tempted, we can find the confidence to respond as Jesus did. We are now going through another Andy Stanley series entitled, Destinations. We all have places we want to end up in life. Yet the paths we choose often lead us away from our intended destinations. One poor decision can send us down the wrong road, crushing our dreams, and wasting years of our lives. This study examines the disconnect between our dreams and the paths we take to reach them. We look at how our direction, and not our intentions, determines our destinations. The High Schoolers have enjoyed this series and the thought provoking, probing questions that it causes us to face. The things we have learned are applicable to adults as well as youth.
