The month of December has been a time of fellowship and celebration of the blessed birth of the Christ Child, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We ended November with our Fifth Sunday Sing and a covered dish luncheon for our members and guests. The service and luncheon were well attended with plenty of good home-cooked dishes and a good time was had by all.
The Christmas Season began with the decorating of our sanctuary Christmas tree. Carolyn Cheshire led our children and young people in a wonderful program of enlightenment of the meaning of ornaments which we place on our trees and reading from the scripture. We learned the meaning of the star, the red ball, the green ball, the candy canes and the star that tops our tree.
The AWANA Children’s Christmas Pageant was on the eve of December 20th. There is nothing quite like the voices and songs of children and young people telling the story of the Christ Child to remind us of the true meaning of the Christmas Season. The Hostess Committee furnished refreshments following the pageant in the church Fellowship Hall. If you have never served on the Hostess Committee you have missed a true blessing, great Christian fellowship and a lot of fun. Nobody brings laughter to a kitchen like Ann Windham.
The Christmas Candlelight Service was planned by the Hostess Committee and held on the eve of December 23rd. This event is always moving because we have all of our tasks behind us and take the time to come together for music and songs, observing and celebrating our Christ’s birthday. The music was by our own Sonshine Strings, Kristin and Kyla Edwards, Rowena Daniel, Chris Smith and Cindy Shannon. Brother Kevin Harvin gave the Christmas Story from the Book of Luke. A Non-traditional Lord’s Supper was observed. The program ended with the lighting of the candles and song by the congregation.
Please take this opportunity to thank each and every member of the Hostess Committee and volunteers for their hard work in making our church’s Christmas Season a warm and wonderful time for all. Of course, no event or service of our church is made successful by just one member, person or committee. It is a coming together in Christian love for our Church Family and community that brings about the wonderful results and success.
